Science Behind Drugs

RCC’s Science Behind Drugs (SBD) Curricular Resources combine information on addiction and neurological development with social-emotional skill building exercises. Lessons and activities are based on the most current research and successful prevention practices.

Implementation of the segments are simple and customizable. RCC works with your educators in targeting existing curricular areas in which the prevention resources would serve as enhancements, allowing significant flexibility for content delivery throughout the school curriculum. The content areas are:

  •  Impact of substances on the brain
  •  Understanding and minimizing risk for abuse
  •  Starting conversations

During training, RCC introduces all elements of the resources to those who will serve as on-site facilitators. All program materials are housed and password-protected on RCC’s online learning management system (LMS) with varied access based upon the individual schools need. Materials include:

  • lesson plans
  • presentations
  • interactive social story software
  • videos
  • handouts, including tools for engaging parents in the prevention process
