Welcome to Healthland, where a 3-D food pyramid illustrates proper
nutrition, puppets talk about germs and the importance of hand washing and
where proper rest and exercise are the rule. Healthland teaches students
about the body's organs and senses, and emphasizes the basics of staying
healthy.
This program is designed to encourage first graders to take
care of their body by following basic health rules. Healthland sessions
include the following elements:
Proper nutrition, adequate
rest, and exercise are the most important rules to good health;
Students are encouraged to limit problem foods as they select from a food
board;
A life-sized skeleton is used to discuss basic organs and
their functions;
Valeda, the transparent talking woman, and a
life-sized skeleton are used to explain the major organs of the body; and
Germ puppets teach about germ transmission and correct hand-washing.
