MICHAEL - PUBERTY EDUCATION FOR boys -  – 5TH - 6TH Grade  (go back)

Synopsis

The Michael Program allows pre-adolescent boys to learn about changes they will experience during puberty. The “boys-only” format encourages open discussion about both male and female reproductive anatomy without embarrassment. Showing respect for others and self-esteem are important topics in preparing boys for puberty.

Physical changes such as lowering of the voice, increased production of sweat and oil, acne, increased percent body fat, and the growth of body hair are discussed in depth. Changes that occur in the male reproductive system such as spontaneous erections and wet dreams are also covered. We also discuss proper nutrition, personal hygiene and exercise, as well as positive self-image.  Includes a comprehensive take-home booklet.

Program Goals:

GOAL #1:  Students increase knowledge about human anatomy, the changes which occur during puberty, and the reasons for these changes.
GOAL
#2:  Students will develop the attitude that the changes of puberty are a normal part of human development and will feel comfortable discussing this topic with trusted adults.
GOAL #3:  The students will learn skills to take care of their bodies as they experience the changes of puberty.
