Grades 1, 2, 3, AND 4
General
Health, NUTRITION AND DRUG USE PREVENTION
When children are well-rested,
well-nourished, and physically fit, they are more ready to learn. From an early
age, children recognize healthy habits and understand why they are important.
HEALTHLAND - 1st Grade
(full details) (60 minutes)
Welcome to
Healthland, where a 3-D food pyramid illustrates proper nutrition, puppets talk
about germs and the importance of hand washing, and where proper rest and
exercise are the rule. Healthland teaches students about the body's organs and
senses, and emphasizes the basics of staying healthy.
BODY CLUB - 2nd Grade
(full details) (60 minutes)
Music, props, and
movement make joining the Body Club an active adventure. Students become members
by learning about health. An anatomy apron with stick on organs helps teach
students where a liver goes and what an intestine does. The 3-D food pyramid
makes nutrition a hands-on experience. Club members are also encouraged to use
good hygiene and get plenty of sleep.
HEALTH ADVENTURE - 3rd Grade
(full details) (85 minutes)
Introduce your
students to Oscar, the take-apart man and his friend, Valeda, the transparent
talking woman. The two of them and a skeleton give a real lesson in human
anatomy that stresses the dynamics of body systems and the different types of
cells. As always, we include the role of proper nutrition, exercise and rest.
INCREDIBLE MACHINE – 4th GRADE
(full details) (85 minutes)
The body's organs
and systems make up one incredible machine. Students will learn about all the
moving parts including: the cardiopulmonary and nervous systems. We'll teach
them to keep their machines in tune with healthy heart care, good diet,
exercise, and by not using drugs and tobacco.
FIT CAMPAIGN – 1st-2nd grades
(
Do your students know how to make healthy choices about
nutrition, exercise, and sleep? Do you want to help them in the battle against
childhood obesity? In Robert Crown’s new FIT Campaign, students will learn about
obesity and its causes; learn about the Food Pyramid and good nutrition; learn
different ways to be physically active and why they should get plenty of sleep.
Ultimately, our goal is to increase students’ awareness of how to lead a healthy
life and avoid long term illnesses, like Type 2 Diabetes. FIT uses an original
cartoon character, Addy, representing a fat cell, to illustrate these concepts,
and each FIT session ends with time for the “Addy Dance.”
SCIENCE BEHIND DRUGS AND PREVENTION - 4th Grade
(full details)
Kids face tough decisions, especially regarding the issue of drug
use. The newly designed “Science
Behind Drugs and Prevention” program helps kids make healthy choices and lead a
drug-free life. Program participants
first learn how drugs affect the body systems, especially the brain, which can
lead to addiction. Using statistical
data, students next dispel the myth that “everyone is doing drugs.”
Finally, students practice refusal skills which arm them with tools to
help them make good decisions regarding drug use.
This interactive program allows kids to utilize touch-screen software,
simulate the disorientation of alcohol through special glasses, and actually
touch a real pig lung!
